Overview
The Hotel
Hotel Amigo occupies a building steps from the Grand-Place — the most magnificent market square in Europe and one of the only complete Gothic civic ensembles still intact — combining a 15th-century prison (the original 'amigo,' a Spanish corruption of a Flemish word for jail) with Renaissance-revival architecture added in the 20th century. The 154 rooms and suites by Olga Polizzi celebrate Belgian artistic heritage with Tintin and Hergé references, Magritte reproductions, and tapestries from the Manufacture de Tapis workshops, creating interiors that feel recognizably, affectionately Belgique. The restaurant is one of Brussels's finest addresses for classic Belgian cuisine, and the hotel's position — Grand-Place in one direction, the brasseries of the Rue des Bouchers in another — is simply without equal in the city.

Brussels's Grand-Place hotels, Bruges's canal-side manor houses, and the Ardennes countryside estates — Belgium punches well above its weight in European luxury hospitality.
