The Hotel

Opened in 1837 by James Brown — formerly Lord Byron's manservant — Brown's Hotel in Mayfair is the oldest hotel in London and wears that distinction with complete ease. The 115 rooms and suites occupy a series of joined Georgian townhouses on Albemarle Street, decorated by Olga Polizzi with a mix of English country house antiques, contemporary art, and fabrics of uncommon quality. Afternoon tea at Brown's was invented here in the 1840s and remains one of the finest in the city; the English Tea Room has hosted Agatha Christie, Rudyard Kipling, and Winston Churchill.
