Villa Igiea received Two MICHELIN Keys as part of the guide's first-ever international Keys selection, a genuinely significant honor for a hotel built around the former private residence of Palermo's Florio family. The MICHELIN Guide's own January 2026 description called out how the hotel lets guests relive the grandeur of the Florio family and Belle Époque Palermo, framed by history, sea breezes, and refined elegance, language that captures the property's identity better than almost any marketing copy could.

The hotel's current form dates to a faithful 2020 restoration led by the same Rocco Forte design trio behind several of the group's other Italian properties: Philip Vergeylen, Paolo Moschino, and Olga Polizzi. Their work restored Villa Igiea to its Liberty-style, Art Nouveau origins while introducing contemporary touches that keep the 100-room hotel feeling current rather than preserved in amber.

The Michelin recognition builds on a run of earlier accolades, including U.S. News & World Report naming it Sicily's best hotel and ranking it #12 across all of Europe. Set on the Tyrrhenian Sea with its own gardens and orchards supplying the kitchen at Florio Restaurant, Villa Igiea remains one of the clearest cases anywhere in Rocco Forte's portfolio of a restoration that genuinely elevated a building rather than simply preserving it.
