Il San Pietro di Positano and Its Michelin-Starred Zass

Il San Pietro di Positano is one of the most celebrated hotels on the Amalfi Coast, carved into the cliffs just outside Positano and all but invisible from the road above. A member of Relais & Châteaux since 1988, its rooms were designed by Renzo Mongiardino, each unique, opening onto terraces that seem to hang over the Mediterranean toward Capri.

At its culinary heart is Zass, a one-Michelin-star restaurant led for more than two decades by Belgian chef Alois Vanlangenaeker, whose cooking narrates the pure flavors of Campania. Beachside, the restaurant Carlino serves organic local cuisine at sea level, while the Terrace Bar and the chic L'Alcova Bar handle aperitivi and after-dinner drinks.

A private beach reached by an elevator cut through the rock, a cliffside tennis court, and unbroken views make Il San Pietro a singular experience even among the Amalfi Coast's storied hotels. Zass gives it a table worthy of the setting.
