Rosewood Mayakoba hosted a genuinely significant guest-chef event on October 16 and 17, 2025, a takeover by Chef Johnny Curiel, Chef and Owner of one-Michelin-starred Alma Fonda Fina and Mezcalería Alma in Colorado. Curiel's restaurant was named to The New York Times' 50 Best Restaurants in America and Bon Appétit's 20 Best New Restaurants of 2025, and he was separately Esquire's 2024 Rising Star of the Year and Michelin Colorado's 2024 Young Chef of the Year.

The takeover built on a strong year for the resort itself, which earned Michelin Two Keys recognition in 2025 and has held Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star status for more than ten consecutive years, a genuinely rare run of sustained recognition in Mexico's competitive Riviera Maya market. Resident Executive Chef Edgar Chavez oversees the resort's own kitchens year-round.

Bringing in a chef of Curiel's caliber, fresh off national recognition from The New York Times and Bon Appétit, for a limited-run guest takeover gave Rosewood Mayakoba's guests access to one of Colorado's most talked-about restaurants without leaving the Riviera Maya.
