Mandarin Oriental Palace, Lucerne Debuts a World-First AI Water System

Mandarin Oriental Palace, Lucerne occupies a landmark Belle Époque building on Lake Lucerne originally built in 1906 by Swiss entrepreneur Franz Josef Bucher, restored and reopened as a Mandarin Oriental in September 2022 after a renovation by Iwan Bühler Architekten and Jestico + Whiles. In June 2025, the hotel added something considerably more modern to that historic shell: a world-first, AI-driven water production system.

The system generates high-quality bottled drinking water on-site rather than importing it, eliminating the plastic waste and transport footprint that comes with a hotel this size stocking bottled water conventionally.
