Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong Begins a Historic Renovation as Daniel Boulud Opens Nearby

Mandarin Oriental announced an unprecedented, simultaneous renovation of its two founding flagship hotels, Hong Kong and Bangkok, in April 2025, running across four phases from the second quarter of 2025 through the fourth quarter of 2026. For Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, the updates include a reimagined Mandarin Cake Shop, a new interior and menu at Mandarin Grill + Bar, an expanded Clipper Lounge, and a revamped Krug Room.

The renovation coincides with major changes at sister property Mandarin Oriental, The Landmark, Hong Kong, which is reopening in June 2026 after a redesign by Joyce Wang Studio. Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud is opening a new rooftop French dining concept atop LANDMARK PRINCE'S, connected to the Mandarin Oriental ecosystem, joining The Landmark's existing roster of Michelin-starred restaurants, Amber, Sushi Shikon, and Kappo Rin.

Renovating two founding flagship hotels at once, while a sister property brings in a chef of Boulud's stature, is a genuinely significant investment for Mandarin Oriental in a single city. For a brand whose name is inseparable from Hong Kong's harbor skyline, the scale of the work underway signals just how much the group is willing to spend to keep its original address at the top of the city's hotel scene.
