Rosewood Miyakojima opened on March 5, 2025, becoming the brand's first property in Japan and giving Rosewood a foothold in the Ryukyu Islands well before its later announcement of an urban Tokyo hotel. The resort occupies a peninsula off Miyako Island, with 55 rooms spanning beachfront and ocean-view villas along with three houses reaching up to 200 square meters.

Studio Piet Boon led the design, drawing on local Ryukyu limestone and wabi-sabi principles to give the resort a genuinely place-specific aesthetic rather than importing a generic tropical-luxury look. CHOMA, the resort's signature dining venue, opened later in 2025, serving washoku cuisine across sushi, tempura, teppanyaki, and yakitori formats.

The Ryukyu Islands remain one of Japan's less internationally known regions despite their striking limestone coastline and distinct culture, and Rosewood Miyakojima's arrival gives the archipelago a genuinely significant new luxury address. For travelers who know Japan primarily through Tokyo and Kyoto, Miyakojima offers an entirely different side of the country.
