Malaysia's Desaru Coast gained a new Mandarin Oriental address on January 30, 2026, when The Sirēya Desaru Coast officially rebranded as Mandarin Oriental, Desaru Coast. A ribbon-cutting ceremony followed on February 5, attended by Mandarin Oriental senior leadership alongside ownership from Destination Resorts and Hotels, formally marking the transition.

Culinary direction now falls to Executive Chef Ahmad Fazli Abdulrahman, trained in classical French fine dining, with prior postings at Mandarin Oriental Al Faisaliah, Riyadh and Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur. He oversees Ambara, the resort's seasonal, locally sourced signature restaurant, and Dusky Monkey, a lounge serving Straits-inspired bites and cocktails.

Desaru Coast has been steadily building a reputation as a golf and beach resort destination outside Malaysia's more established Langkawi and Penang circuits, and a Mandarin Oriental rebrand gives it a new tier of international recognition. For travelers who knew the property as The Sirēya, the new name comes with a genuinely upgraded culinary program to match.
