Belmond Hotel Monasterio Cusco Named South America's Leading Heritage Hotel

Belmond Hotel Monasterio has held South America's Leading Heritage Hotel and Peru's Leading Hotel honors for both 2024 and 2025, alongside World's Leading Heritage Hotel in 2024, a genuinely consistent run of recognition for a property built inside a former monastery dating to 1592. The building's status as a national monument means every renovation has had to work within real preservation constraints, which has kept the hotel's historic character intact even as its amenities have modernized.

The 122 rooms and suites are arranged around the monastery's original inner courtyards, with many offering views over Cusco's colorful rooftops or directly into the building's tranquil central gardens. Its location right beside the city's lively main square gives guests immediate access to Cusco's cathedral, markets, and restaurants, a genuine advantage over properties set further from the historic center.

With a 9.6 out of 10 rating and a ranking among the top ten hotels in Cusco on Tripadvisor, Monasterio has clearly maintained its reputation through consistency rather than reinvention. For travelers building a Peru itinerary around Cusco as a base before heading into the Sacred Valley or on to Machu Picchu, Monasterio remains one of the most historically resonant places to stay in the city itself.
