Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel Welcomes Ángel León's First African Restaurant

Belmond Mount Nelson opened Amura in December 2025, an immersive marine dining concept from three-Michelin-star chef Ángel León, marking the celebrated Chef of the Sea's first restaurant outside Spain and his debut anywhere on the African continent. The restaurant draws inspiration from the biodiversity where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet off Cape Town's coastline, a genuinely rare pairing of Spanish culinary technique with South African marine ecology.

South African interior architect Tristan du Plessis designed Amura as a visual homage to the kelp forests beneath Cape Town's waters, aiming for a mood that is deliberately moody, mysterious, and cinematic rather than bright and beach-resort casual. It joins Planet Restaurant, the hotel's existing fine dining venue led by award-winning Executive Chef Rudi Liebenberg, giving Mount Nelson two genuinely serious culinary programs operating simultaneously.

The hotel also debuted the Thebe Magugu Suite in December, a collaboration with the acclaimed South African fashion designer marking the ten-year anniversary of his brand, bringing his Afro-modernist design vision into one of the hotel's accommodations. Between the Michelin-starred marine restaurant and the fashion-forward suite, Mount Nelson, ranked No. 28 on The World's 50 Best Hotels list and Africa's top hotel, continues to layer genuinely new cultural programming onto its already storied Cape Town address.
