Pagani's Utopia and the Hypercar as Art

The Utopia

The current flagship is the Utopia, the successor to the Huayra and only the third model line in the company's history, following the legendary Zonda. It is powered by a bespoke twin turbo V12 developed by Mercedes-AMG, and, remarkably for a modern hypercar, it can be ordered with a manual gearbox. In an era of paddle shifts and ever quicker automatics, Pagani chose to offer three pedals and a metal shifter, a deliberate decision to favor the pleasure of driving over the last fraction of a second. It is offered as a coupe and as the open topped Utopia Roadster.

Art and Science

Horacio Pagani often cites Leonardo da Vinci and the idea that art and science can advance together, and that philosophy shows in every detail of his cars. Exposed bolts are milled from titanium and treated as jewelry, the weave of the carbon fiber is arranged for beauty as much as strength, and the company developed its own carbon and titanium composites to achieve it. Nothing on a Pagani is purely functional if it can also be made beautiful.

Because so few are built, and because each is tailored to its owner, a Pagani is among the most collectible cars in the world, often appreciating well beyond its original price.
