Koenigsegg's Latest, and the Endless Chase for Records

Few car makers are as singular as Koenigsegg. From a small town in Sweden, the company founded by Christian von Koenigsegg has spent three decades building some of the fastest and most technically radical cars ever made, inventing its own engineering solutions where other makers simply buy them off the shelf. To follow Koenigsegg is to watch a company treat the automobile as an unsolved problem.

The Current Cars

The heart of the range is the Jesko, offered in a track focused Attack form and a version built for outright top speed. The Gemera is something stranger and, in its way, more radical, a four seat hypercar, a genuine attempt to build a car with the pace of the fastest machines on earth and room for the family. The CC850 revives the spirit of the original Koenigsegg with a transmission that can behave as either a manual or an automatic, and the hardcore Sadair's Spear pushes the Jesko further still toward the track.

The Chase for Records

Koenigsegg has always been drawn to records. In 2017 its Agera RS set a production car top speed record of 277.9 miles per hour, and the marque has continued to design cars engineered for even higher speeds. Yet the numbers are only part of the story. Koenigsegg is equally known for its engineering inventions, from its own hybrid systems to novel valve and transmission technologies, many of which it develops and manufactures in house rather than sourcing from suppliers.

Why It Matters

What sets Koenigsegg apart is not simply that its cars are fast but that they are curious.
