The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort opened on August 14, 2024, the first large-scale resort to arrive on Longboat Key in more than fifty years. Built by Moss & Associates at a cost of $376 million, the resort spans 18 acres across five six-story buildings, combining 168 guest rooms with 69 private residences ranging from 1,553 to 5,895 square feet.

Construction ran 28 months with roughly 800 workers at peak, a scale of project genuinely rare for a barrier island community accustomed to smaller, lower-impact development. By its approaching first anniversary in August 2025, the resort had already established itself as a defining new address on Florida's Gulf Coast, described by Forbes as bringing barefoot luxury to a stretch of coastline that hadn't seen a project this ambitious in decades.

For a barrier island where large-scale resort development had been essentially paused for half a century, The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort's arrival marks a genuine turning point for how the island's luxury hospitality scene is likely to develop going forward.
