The Bauer has occupied the same San Marco address since 1880, and its transformation into Rosewood Hotel Bauer took a significant step forward in September 2025, when Mohari Hospitality, working with partner Omnam Investment Group, closed a 280 million euro financing package for the property's redevelopment. The pair had acquired the 191-room hotel for a reported 300 million euros in November 2024.

The restoration is being led by Venice architect Alberto Torsello alongside interior design firm BAR Studio, rebuilding the interior behind the historic facade while preserving the building's position between the Grand Canal and Piazza San Marco. The finished hotel will be considerably more intimate than its predecessor, just over 110 rooms, the majority signature suites plus a presidential suite, with a rooftop bar built around a traditional Venetian altana terrace.

Financing news doesn't usually make for compelling travel reading, but for a restoration of this scale, in one of Venice's most storied buildings, a confirmed 280 million euro commitment is the clearest signal yet that the project has real momentum behind it. An opening date remains fluid, targeted for 2026 or later, but the financial groundwork is now firmly in place.
