The Ritz-Carlton, Portland opened as Oregon's first five-star hotel, occupying the upper floors of a downtown tower with floor-to-ceiling views toward the Cascade Range and Mount Hood. It gave the city a luxury address it had never quite had.

The dining leans into the setting. Bellpine, on the 20th floor, serves Mexican-inspired Pacific Northwest cuisine with panoramic city views, and the adjacent Bellpine Bar keeps things relaxed with cocktails and light fare. Meadowrue rounds out the program with Japanese-inspired small plates, a 12-course omakase tasting menu, and weekend live music.

For a city that prizes its independent restaurant scene, the hotel makes a credible case that fine dining and Portland sensibility can share a table.
