Inside the Montage Palmetto Bluff River House Renovation

The River House renovation at Montage Palmetto Bluff reprogrammed the building's ground floor to add a restaurant, a hidden speakeasy, and a coffee shop, alongside updates to the main lobby and kitchen equipment. The project, which enclosed several of the building's original exterior porches to create the new spaces, earned a 2024 AIA Hilton Head Award for its design.

The renovation lands during a run of consistent recognition for the resort, which has collected Forbes Five-Star Awards every year from 2021 through 2026 and Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence in both 2025 and 2026. U.S. News & World Report also ranked it the #1 hotel in both Hilton Head and South Carolina in 2026.
