Oman had never had a Mandarin Oriental until June 3, 2024, when Mandarin Oriental, Muscat opened in Shatti Al-Qurum, overlooking the Arabian Sea. The opening marked the brand's debut in the Sultanate, giving Muscat a luxury address built specifically around the brand's Asian-inspired spa program and hospitality style, applied to an Omani coastal setting.
The resort's 103 guestrooms and 47 suites lean heavily on local materials, including Desert Rose marble, a stone formation distinctive to the Arabian Peninsula, and Ashwood, giving the interiors a sense of place rather than importing a generic international design language.
Muscat has developed a smaller, more understated luxury hotel scene than its Gulf neighbors, and Mandarin Oriental's arrival gives the city a genuinely new tier of address. For travelers drawn to Oman's quieter, more traditional take on Gulf luxury, the resort's Shatti Al-Qurum setting puts the Arabian Sea, and the brand's signature hospitality, within easy reach of central Muscat.
