Mandarin Oriental, Hangzhou is being built within Hang Lung's Westlake 66 mixed-use complex, steps from West Lake, the UNESCO World Heritage Site that has defined Hangzhou's identity for over a thousand years. It will be Zhejiang Province's first Mandarin Oriental, giving the brand a foothold in one of China's most historically significant and scenically celebrated cities.
The 194 rooms and suites draw their design language from the Song Dynasty, a period closely associated with Hangzhou's cultural golden age, and from West Lake itself. Opening timing has shifted in press coverage over the past couple of years, with earlier reports citing 2025, but the most recent 2026 reporting confirms an expected 2027 opening.
For a brand that has built much of its China portfolio around major financial and coastal cities, Hangzhou offers something different: a hotel positioned around cultural heritage and natural scenery as much as commerce. Travelers planning ahead for West Lake should keep Mandarin Oriental's 2027 target on their radar as the opening date approaches.
