Amankora is less a hotel than a journey. It is a circuit of five intimate lodges set across the central and western valleys of Bhutan, Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang, designed to be travelled in sequence as a guided passage through the most sacred kingdom in the Himalayas. Few trips in the world of travel are as transporting, and arranging one well takes planning. Booking through a preferred-partner advisory costs the same as booking direct, with recognition and benefits added at no extra cost.
Five Valleys, Five Lodges
Each lodge sits in a distinct landscape, from the pine forests above Paro, within reach of the cliffside Tiger's Nest monastery, to the rice terraces of Punakha, the high glacial valley of Gangtey where the black-necked cranes winter, and the spiritual heartland of Bumthang. The lodges share a spare, monastic architecture of rammed earth and timber, warmed by wood-burning stoves, so that the drama stays outside the window where it belongs.
Suites Warmed by Wood and Stone
Rooms across the lodges follow a consistent, restrained design: king suites with a wood-burning bukhari stove at the centre, a window framing the valley, and a deep bath for soaking after a day in the mountains. The intimacy is part of the point, with only a handful of suites at each lodge and a high ratio of staff to guests throughout the journey.
Bhutanese Tradition, Thoughtfully Served
Dining draws on Bhutanese tradition alongside Western dishes, with meals often arranged in memorable settings, a farmhouse dinner, a lunch among the terraces, a private table by a river. The cuisine is honest and rooted in place, and the kitchens adapt to the rhythm of each day's travel.
Hot Stone Baths and Sacred Access
The journey is built around experience: guided hikes including the ascent to the Tiger's Nest, private audiences and temple visits, archery with locals, and the traditional hot stone bath, dotsho, at the end of a long day. Every itinerary is tailored to the season and your interests. Amankora is one of Aman's great journeys; see our overview of which Aman resort is right for you.
Amankora is not a place you check into so much as a path you follow, valley by valley, through the last Buddhist kingdom in the Himalayas.
