Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai is set to return in a new tower after the original property closed. The first Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai, in the Puxi area, opened in 2002 and closed in June 2020 for comprehensive redevelopment, and a new 44-story, 160-room tower on Huaihai Zhong Road in the Huangpu district is now targeting a 2027 opening.
The new hotel is planned with five dining venues, a spa, a fitness center, and a heated outdoor pool. It is worth noting that the unrelated former Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, which opened in 2012, was rebranded as a Regent in 2020 and is no longer a Four Seasons, so the two should not be confused.
Shanghai is one of the most competitive luxury hotel markets in the world, and the brand's return to Puxi would reestablish its presence in the city center. The project represents an anticipated homecoming rather than a current opening.
