Belmond Hotel Splendido Portofino Reopens After a Martin Brudnizki Renovation

Belmond Hotel Splendido reopened on June 7, 2025, following an extensive renovation by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio that reworked the former 16th-century Benedictine monastery into what Belmond is calling a new era of splendor above Portofino harbor. The redesign leans on Ligurian craftsmanship throughout, giving the interiors a distinctly regional character rather than a generic luxury template layered onto the historic building.

The reopening introduced Italy's first permanent Dior Spa, a genuinely notable addition for a hotel already known as the Grand Dame of the Italian Riviera. Chef Corrado Corti continues to oversee the hotel's restaurants, maintaining the culinary continuity that regular guests have come to expect even as the physical spaces around the kitchen changed substantially.

An Assouline coffee table book, Splendido: The Radiant Stage on Portofino, was published to mark the hotel's new era, and the property joins Belmond's Villeggiatura by Train program for 2026, pairing the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express with a stay on the Ligurian coast. Between the renovation, the new spa, and the coffee table book, this has been the most significant stretch in the hotel's recent history.
