Oro is Hotel Cipriani's flagship dining room, a beautifully proportioned space that looks across the lagoon toward the Doge's Palace — the view at sunset, when the basilica dome turns amber and the gondolas are silhouetted against the water, is one of the great dining sights in Europe.

The kitchen is serious: Venetian ingredients done with confidence and restraint. The risotto in nero di seppia, the branzino in acqua pazza, and the tiramisù (the hotel claims to have invented it) are all worth ordering. The wine list goes deep into the Veneto and northeastern Italy.
